The design in one paragraph

The frame is 1×2 × 1/8" tube on edge, with mitered outside corners and casters recessed into boxed pockets. The bench bay is open, and the bench sits on corner pads. The welder sits at the bench's end with a 3⅜" vent gap and 5" of lead clearance in front. A row of posts against the bench's back holds the cylinders, a middle shelf flush with the bench top, and an upper L shelf 12½" above the bench top that wraps over the welder. The cords hang off the welder end.

Equipment layout

The bench runs along the front, where you stand. A spine of posts stands right behind it on crossmember D, and the bench rests against them. The 13½" rear row holds the cylinders, the plasma bay and the TIG rod tubes. The welder sits at the bench's right end with its controls facing front and its back flush with the cart.

Frame plan

Members are lettered to match the cut list. A, B and both Cs form the mitered perimeter. D is the spine crossmember, E edges the welder bay, G divides the cylinders from the plasma, and H runs under the cylinder centers. The P pieces box in the four caster pockets. Every post lands on a frame member or a caster pocket plate.

Mitered corner detail

Cut each miter across the 1" face with the tube standing on edge, so it closes the corner in plan. Mitered lengths are long point, measured along the outside face. The short point is the long point minus 2". The miter guide covers the technique in detail.
