About the Ultimate Welding Cart
This is a one-person design project: a rolling cart for a home shop, drawn and redrawn until every piece of equipment had a place and every piece of steel came out of six sticks.
Why it exists
Off-the-shelf welding carts hold a welder and a bottle. This shop needed one cart to carry a 46" Yukon workbench, a large multiprocess welder on a water cooler (an Everlast Lightning MTS 275-P on a PowerCool W401), two 250 cu ft cylinders, a plasma cutter and a stock of TIG rods, all inside a 33" depth limit. Nothing like that was for sale, so it got designed from scratch, with enough room that other big welders of similar size fit too.
How it was designed
The design is parametric. One source file generates the shop drawings, the 3D model and the STEP file, so the dimensions agree everywhere. Every dimension was worked out on paper, against measured equipment, before any steel was cut. You can see the result in the shop drawings and the 3D model.
Use it for your own shop
The plans are free for personal use. Build it as drawn, adapt it to your own welder and bench, or borrow just the ideas you like: the recessed caster pockets, the mitered corners, the capped TIG rod tubes.
