Cylinder and TIG Rod Storage on a Welding Cart
The rear row behind the bench is only 13½" deep, but it holds two cylinders up to 250 cu ft, a plasma cutter and five 40" TIG rod tubes. Here's how it's packed.
- Vertical 1×2 post
- TIG rod tubes
- Lead and power-cable coils
- Lead clearance
Two cylinders on the spine
The cylinders stand just behind the spine posts, directly over crossmember H, so their weight goes straight into the frame. Two chains, about 36" each, hook to eyes on the back of the cylinder upright and the shared upright. They wrap each bottle at about 18" and 34" above the deck, roughly a third and two thirds of bottle height.
Secure every bottle
TIG rods in capped PVC tubes
Five 1½" Schedule 40 PVC tubes, 40" long, stand in the cylinder-end corner of the rear row. Each has a glued cap on the bottom and a slip cap on top, so rods stay clean and dry and you can sort them by alloy and diameter. Two 11" rebar rails at 4" and 28" above the deck, running back from the cylinder upright, clamp the tubes in place. The top rail is rebar rather than 1×2 to give the cylinders more room.
Plasma bay and shelves
The plasma cutter sits in a bay about 18" wide between the shared upright's gusset and the shelf post. Above it, the middle shelf sits flush with the bench top, with about 15" of clearance underneath. Above that, the upper L shelf wraps from behind the bench over the top of the welder, 12½" above the bench top.
Leads and power cable
Nothing hangs inside the footprint. A 5/8" rebar rail runs between the two welder-end posts, 31" above the deck, with four short hooks pointing out past the end: two for the leads, one for the helmet and one for the power cable. The coils hang about 2" outside the cart. See the 3D model from the welder end.
